Pasaules Dabas fonds works in close cooperation with WWF. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by:

• conserving the world's biological diversity
• ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
• promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

Pasaules Dabas fonds has been working in Latvia since 1991.

Our projects:

Nature conservation

 The aim of this initiative is restoration of natural landscapes in Latvia by adapting grazing pressure of large herbivores (semi-wild horses, auroch and wisent) on abandoned lands. Pasaules Dabas fonds consequently aims to demonstrate alternative rural development scenarious.

Before people in Latvia started to use land for agriculture there were large herbivores like horses, wisent and auroch living in the wild. By renewing this large herbivore population, we help to restore ecosystems that are characteristic to Latvian nature. Currently there are 35 wild horses living in the project area. Forests

 We promote sustainable forestry in Latvia, practically demonstrating environmentally friendly, socially beneficial and economically viable forestry both in private and state forests. Pasaules Dabas fonds is also supporting the FSC forestry certification scheme introduction initiative in Latvia. 

Environmental policy

 Pasaules Dabas fonds favours sustainable rural development, and strives to influence national and regional  decision-makers. By involving in local as well as EU decision making process Pasaules Dabas fonds wants to achieve the situation when Latvian society's economical, social and environmental interests in the rural development are taken into account.
